Miriam Aviva Friedland, Associate Attorney
Licensure: Ms. Friedland is licensed to practice law in the States of New Mexico, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
Education: Ms. Friedland earned a Juris Doctor Degree with Honors in 2001 from the Washington College of Law, American University of Washington, DC. She completed her undergraduate work with Honors in Sociology and Studio Art at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
Areas of Legal Emphasis: Wills, Trusts, and Estate Planning, Special Needs Trust for people with disabilities; Family Law for Traditional and LGBT families.
Present and Former Memberships: Albuquerque Bar Association, Conflict Resolution Center for Montgomery County, Maryland, District of Columbia Bar, Maryland State Bar, National Center for Lesbian Rights, New Mexico State Bar, New Mexico LGBT Bar, New Mexico’s Women’s Bar, Richmond, Virginia Safe Schools Coalition.
Prior Experience: Ms. Friedland came to New Mexico from the District of Columbia, where she practiced in a small general practice firm with a focus on family law. Additional work and volunteer opportunities include: Youth Law Center, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, American University Criminal Justice Clinic, U.S. Department of Justice Office of Civil Rights, Special Litigation Section, Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, and Department of Agriculture. Ms. Friedland also has a long history of working and volunteering with nonprofits serving youth and families and promoting the arts.
